Today I Thought This Stuff

This morning, as I turned east on Hwy. 20 at 6:40 AM, I was beyond delighted to see the sun just cresting the horizon. For the first time weeks, no months, I would be arriving at work in almost daylight. In sunlight. Well, that makes me happy and so, in no particular order, it goes on the list:
SMALL THINGS OVER WHICH I HAVE NO CONTROL THAT MAKE ME OUT OF PROPORTION HAPPY
1.) Starting work in the daylight. It is bliss.
2.) The smell in the air and the quality of the light after sudden midwestern thunderstorm just before sunset. If you looked up delightful there might be this phenomenon instead of a definition. (If you could somehow make the page glow and smell awesome.)
3.) Those big clouds that aren’t storm clouds but are fluffy on top but flat on the bottom like they’re sitting on glass. Like Under the Dome might have looked but way super-higher up and not in a we’re-all-going-to-die, Stephen King way.
4.) When, all of a sudden, I can hear my mother’s voice in my head-not just remember it. That one feels harder to explain but trust me...it’s wonderful and comes of it’s own volition.
5.) When Orion is starts to descend from the night sky. Orion is winter constellation ‘round here...‘nuff said.
6.) That random day in early spring. That warm day. That stolen day. The day that the air feels like velvet and you don’t need a jacket and the sun is warm even though the shadows might be cool. That day. The day that would cause my dad to inhale deeply and announce: “This is a day the Lord has made!” ..........that day.
7.) Really good mustard. That's all. I just love really good mustard.
I know there are others but these came quickly to mind. What things beyond your own control make you furiously happy?

  1. 1.) Opening a new box of crayons. Drool actually pooled in my mouth thinking about that just now.
2.) When Jurassic Park is on TV even though I own it on VHS & DVD and I've probably seen it in excess of 100 times. Like now.
3.) Something good coming in the mail, instead of all the crappy bills and credit card offers.
4.) The ringing silence in my ears in the moment after I close the door on my son and husband leaving for school/work in the morning.
5.) Waking up in the morning flat on my back without any sinus congestion and with absolutely no body parts hurting. Those days are rare, and they are so beautiful.
    6.) Shooting stars.
7.) Watching a wild thunderstorm from the safety of high ground behind my glassed-in porch.

  2. I don't want to number these and make them seem ordered by value, so I'll just use bullets.
♥ Practicing a new song on melodeon and getting it right without really trying.
♥ Hugs just make me feel good. I can't explain it but hugging and being hugged just puts me in the right place mentally.
♥ Getting up in the morning. There are few opportunities so full of promise and potential as the start of a new day.
♥ Lunch in front of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I get so giddy I literally clap and bounce on the couch. Bliss.
♥ Walking in a gentle snow fall, when it mutes the world. Conversely...
♥ Walking in high summer when you can feel the air and the heat all around you.
♥ Restaurant meals with friend/s. Ma Fischer's preferably, but almost anywhere will do.
Gah! There's a lot more but these are the first things that sprang to mind.
